Security clearance levels in the UK vary, with a number of different vetting processes to accommodate a selection of needs. One such security check (SC) is the Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) clearance, which verifies an individual is an appropriate candidate to work in an organisation at risk of a terrorist attack.
CTC clearance offers a level of assurance that those taking up certain positions can handle sensitive information and are capable of safeguarding national security. This may be because they’ll be working with top level personnel, such as public figures or those in a cabinet office, who could be targeted in a terrorist attack.
Such clearance levels can also be appropriate if access is granted to top secret assets or information that terrorists could find valuable. Anyone accessing places at risk of being attacked unaccompanied should also undergo the CTC vetting process.

Candidates must be at least 21 years old to undergo the national security vetting process and have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three out of the last five years.
